本課程將介紹圖書資訊學的意義與內涵，並在理論之外，概述圖書資訊產業的實務運作狀況。
課程分別從圖書館學與資訊科學兩個層面切入，首先論述圖書館的各個服務層面，其次探討資訊科學相關的議題，進而概論當今圖書資訊產業所面臨的衝擊與挑戰。

Being an introduction to librarianship as an information profession, this course includes topics of social and historical background, types of libraries, potential roles of library, the service ethic of the profession, and current issues affecting library and information science. This course also provide an overview of the functions and processes, users, collections and evaluation of academic, public, school and special libraries and information centers; current professional issues such as legal and ethical topics, intellectual property, information access, intellectual freedom and censorship. On completion of this course, student will understand the responsibilities of librarians and other information professionals, and issues and trends affecting the development of library and information studies.
